Welcome to the Teller County Citizen Corps website.  Citizen Corps makes up the non-governmental part of our Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and is a "virtual" group of various volunteer organizations that support emergency management preparedness and responses within Teller County.  Citizen Corps is designed to utilize the skills and abilities of our citizens to prepare our community for the threats of crime, disaster, and terrorism.  Citizen Corps is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is a vital part of the USA Freedom Corps.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Public Health Emergency - PHE.gov

If you had not seen it, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently rolled out their "Public Health Emergency" website and social media suite.  Using their http://phe.gov "hub" and a Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Washington-DC/PHEgov-Public-Health-Emergencygov/124033720970158?v=wall&__a=3), a Twitter Feed at http://twitter.com/PHEgov and a YouTube site at http://www.youtube.com/user/PHEgov#, the effort is worth checking out.  Their apparent intent is to consolidate links and latest info regarding public health emergencies (not surprising, given the title) for health and med services support, fed/state/local planners, medical countermeasures staff, public health emergency workers and first responders, clinicians and practitioners.  One very cool effort within the page is the PHE's attempt to list all web presence/social media outlets for State public health organizations at http://www.phe.gov/emergency/news/multimedia/Pages/statesocialmediasites.aspx.  It is a good reference tool to see what our colleagues across the nation are doing, lessons learned and ideas.  For more on the site and links, check out http://www.coemergency.com/2010/06/public-health-emergency-phegov.html

The Local Emergency Planning Committee includes Teller County officials (county commissioners, fire, police, emergency management, health, social services, etc.), professional services (physicians, nurses, EMS/EMTs, etc.) and volunteers (organizations and individuals). The purpose of the LEPC is to ensure that our county is unified and prepared to respond to any future emergency and it will serve as a coordination body for all official, commercial, and volunteer groups within our country that deal with protection and safety of our citizens. By federal regulation, the LEPC is also responsible for administration of the federal Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) within our county.

NOTE: A PowerPoint presentation on our Citizen Corps programs within Teller County can be downloaded at Citizen Corps Presentation.

NOTE: If you are an official within Teller County or a volunteer that might be able to help out in an emergency, we urge you to complete an Emergency Notification List (ENL) input form. You can download this form at TC-ENL FORM or send an email to TC-LEPC@hotmail.com for additional information. Completed forms should be delivered to the Sheriff's Office, scanned and emailed to TC-LEPC@hotmail.com, or faxed to 687-7806.

NOTE: We have recently designed a toolbar for your web browser (Internet Explorer and Firefox) which provides critical links to county resources and our Citizen Corps programs. The toolbar also includes an alert system that provides important information regarding ongoing emergencies and other situations. Teller County Citizen Corps Groups:

  • Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) LogoThe Teller County Medical Reserve Corps (TC-MRC) consists of volunteer Colorado licensed or certified active and former medical professionals (Doctors, RNs, LPNs, EMTs, Pas, Mental Health Professionals, and adjunct medical personnel experienced in working with patients and health care providers such as administrative personnel, medical records personnel, and public health staff) that may be available to assist our community during a medical emergency or disaster.  TC-MRC provides the mechanism for orderly, optimal deployment of medical personnel in the event of an emergency.  For additional information about TC-MRC, please click on the MRC logo or email Martha Hubbard at Teller County Public Health.  You can find information on how to join the MRC by clicking the following hyperlink: TC-MRC Application Process.  Additionally, MRC members must register with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on their Colorado Volunteer Mobilizer (CVM) for Medical and Public Health Professionals Site.

    TC-MRC Application Process

Additionally, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) have established the Colorado Volunteer Mobilizer (CVM) for Medical and Public Health Professionals.  This is an Internet based system in which citizens can register and indicate levels of potential assistance during an emergency, can be state- and nation- wide and includes other than licensed/certified or adjunct medical volunteers.
  • Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) LogoThe Teller County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) addresses emergency support tasks such as manning Red Cross Shelters and direct support to our Office of Emergency Management. We have several local experts who are certified CERT trainers and we intend to sponsor various training in the near future. CERT skills and functions are embedded within most of the other volunteer emergency groups. Teller County CERT members are assembled by the Office of Emergency Management from other teams on an as needed, second tier, basis rather than being a standalone team.  If you are interested in joining this effort, please contact Bill Stevenson.

  • USAonWatch is the face of the National Neighborhood Watch Program.  We have one registered program within Teller County and a number of unregistered efforts.  We encourage you to register your neighborhood watch programs so that we can better organize and resource our combined efforts within the county.  For additional information please contact "JJ" Jamison.
